Motor Guard M-26 Sub-Micron Airline Filter

The Motor Guard M-26 is a high-performance sub-micronic compressed air filter designed specifically to meet the rigorous demands of plasma cutting applications. In plasma cutting, air quality is as critical as power; even trace amounts of moisture, oil aerosols, or particulates can cause erratic arc performance, slag buildup, and premature failure of expensive torch consumables.

By installing the M-26 as a dedicated "point-of-use" filter, users ensure that only dry, contaminant-free air reaches the torch. This filter can help significantly extend the life of electrodes and nozzles while improving the overall cut quality and consistency of plasma cutting systems.

Benefits of Use for Plasma Cutting

  • Consumable Protection: Eliminates the "spitting" and arc instability caused by moisture, preventing the rapid erosion of hafnium inserts in plasma tips.
  • Contaminant Removal: Traps oil vapor and particulates down to 0.01 micron, ensuring the internal solenoid valves of the plasma cutter remain free of debris.
  • High Flow, Low Drop: Engineered to handle high SCFM requirements without the pressure drops that trigger "Low Air" errors on modern digital plasma cutters.

Connection and Fitting Notes

The Motor Guard M-26 features 1/4" NPT (National Pipe Thread) inlet and outlet ports. To integrate this filter into your plasma cutting setup, the following fittings are typically required:

  • Inlet Side: A 1/4" NPT Industrial or Automotive-style quick-connect plug to accept your existing air hose.
  • Outlet Side: A 1/4" NPT brass nipple (close nipple) to connect the filter directly to the machine's rear intake, or a short "whip" hose to allow for flexible mounting.
  • Mounting: The unit includes a sturdy mounting bracket. It is recommended to mount the filter vertically on the back of the plasma cutter or an adjacent wall to allow for easy element replacement.
