Blue Demon E4043 Aluminum Covered Electrodes
E4043 is a general purpose aluminum electrode for arc welding aluminum alloys. The arc is stable and operates at low temperatures with a minimum of spatter and fuming. The welds are strong, dense, and free of porosity on both production and maintenance applications. E4043 is a great choice when welding heat-treated aluminum parts. This welding rod may also be used in brazing applications.

E4043 Stick Electrode Welding Tips
- Polarity Matters: You should always use DCEP (Reverse Polarity). This provides the "cleaning action" necessary to break through the tough aluminum oxide layer that sits on the surface of the metal.
- Travel Speed: Aluminum stick welding is fast. Once the arc starts, the rod consumes rapidly. Be prepared to move about twice as fast as you would with steel (like E6013).
- Moisture Sensitivity: E4043 electrode coatings are susceptible to picking up atmospheric moisture. Always keep your electrodes in a sealed container or a rod oven. Damp electrodes may produce excessive spatter or porosity.
- Preheating: For aluminum thicker than 1/8", preheating the workpiece to about 200°C (approx. 400°F) will help prevent the "cold start" look and ensure better penetration.
