316LSi offers the same characteristics as 316L, with a higher silicon content for better arc stability and a smoother bead appearance, plus a low carbon content for excellent resistance to carbide precipitation.
ER316LSi stainless steel MIG wire is primarily used for welding similar molybdenum-bearing austenitic alloys (such as AISI 316 and 316L stainless steel) where high resistance to corrosion, pitting, and acid attack is required.
316: Formulated to match Type 316 stainless steel, containing molybdenum for enhanced resistance to chlorides and industrial chemicals.
L (Low Carbon): Max carbon content of 0.03%, which minimizes carbide precipitation during welding and prevents intergranular corrosion without needing post-weld heat treatment.
Si (High Silicon): Higher silicon content (0.65%–1.00%) improves arc stability, increases fluid puddle mobility, and results in smoother weld beads with flatter profiles and better toe wetting.
Chemical & Petrochemical Processing: Used in piping, tanks, pressure vessels, and valves exposed to corrosive acids and harsh industrial solvents.
Food, Beverage & Dairy: Preferred for equipment requiring smooth, sanitary weld surfaces to prevent bacterial buildup and withstand frequent CIP (clean-in-place) chemical washdowns.
Marine Infrastructure & Hardware: Ideal for salt-water and coastal environments, including boat fittings, handrails, and marine structural components exposed to chloride pitting.
Pharmaceutical & Biotechnology: Welds process lines and vessels where clean, defect-free joints are necessary to avoid fluid contamination.
Exhaust Systems & Architectural Fabrication: Popular in custom automotive stainless exhaust fabrication and high-end architectural metalwork due to its aesthetic bead appearance and minimal spatter.
MIG (GMAW): Typically used with Stainless AO2 Steel MIG MIX A 98% Argon / 2% Oxygen
